.A production team presented their findings to senior managers. The group had used the Hagen Improvement Process and Compass software tools to establish true profit potential and had increased the performance of the pigment plant by nearly 30%. To do this, they had successfully challenged a number of beliefs about how better to run the process.
At an appreciation meeting, the company’s chief executive was delighted with the work and said so. Then, the normally restrained quality manager stood up and in a rare display of emotion said, "I've worked here for 30 years, longer than any of you, and I have the right to speak.” He continued, "What you have done has been extraordinary. I'm so proud of you, I could cry." And he did. All of this taking place in a large, old Scottish chemical plant.
